It could be scar tissue that is itching, just a bad habit, stress, anxiety or simply boredom. Look to see if the area of the injury is swollen which could also happen as a result of her licking. If swollen the area may be becoming infected as cats carry a lot of bacteria in their mouths and it’s hurting her. If this is the case you should get the advice of a veterinarian as the wound is open again & the infection can spread. He or she is likely to suggest an antibiotic ointment & a cone or alternative to stop her from licking. Human treatments or home remedies are toxic to animals. Aspirin will make your cat seriously ill as can many other human pain medication or creams. Vaseline could stop hairballs from being expelled from the mouth. A recommended pet store might have something more comfortable than a cone available. You might want to consider getting or making a light, breathable small dog-like coat preventing her from being able to lick the wound which she will get used to. There are options at online pet stores that might just have little cat coats. If all else fails make an appointment with your veterinarian or see if they will let go on Skype or another site where you can discuss the issue & you can hold up your cat so your veterinarian can see but I think it more likely that they will want to see you cat & feel for any underlying problems in that area. Let us know how things progress. Good luck.
I think it’s a lot of things, but dog lovers aren’t necessarily loved by all dogs. I think a lot of long term dog owners have a certain way with dogs….. it’s how we talk, how we smell like our own dogs, our body language, the way we’re comfortable around them, how we make eye contact and respond to the dogs body language. We pick up on a dogs behaviour and what it’s asking for…… and I also think it’s how we interact with the dogs owner. My husband loves dogs, but doesn’t have any understanding of them. He told me a dog was happy because it’s tail was wagging. It wasn’t happy at all….. it was extremely defensive and the tail was very rigid almost clicking side to side. Another thing is small dog owners can be extremely nervous around large breeds which causes distrust in some of them….. our emotions are identified quickly by the dogs and their senses can pick up on fear or uncertainty.
The final thing that’s odd to me about the question is it’s worded as if dogs and cats had a worked-out plan—to come to us for food and safety. Or that they were starving and terrified and begged for our help. I’ve never read any serious hypothesis which claimed that. Nor have I read one that claimed dogs and cats knew what they were getting into and signed a contract saying, “We agree to be domesticated, as long as you give us food and keep us safe.” One hypothesis about cat domestication is that wild cats were attracted to human settlements after the invention of agriculture, because human food stores were great hunting grounds for rodents. The problem was that most cats were scared to get too close to humans. Some may have had genetic mutations that made them less scared, which was an evolutionary advantage, because it gave them access to the rats and mice that were eating the humans’ grain. Meanwhile, humans tolerated the cats, because they helped rid their grain stores of vermin. And this symbiotic relationship gradually led to domestication. None of which implies some contract in which the cats go together and say, “It’s cool if those people want to keep us in pet stores, sell us, force us to live in various homes, and cut our balls off.”It sounds like your ethical system isn’t based around consent, at least when it comes to non-human animals. That’s fine. Mine isn’t either. But the whole thing about consent not being an issue because they came to us for food and safety is very odd.
